Good morning and welcome, we are resuming our coverage of the aftermath of the devastating flash floods that hit parts of Spain earlier this week, particularly affecting the Valencia region.

As rescue and recovery efforts resume this morning, the Spanish government recently confirmed that an additional 10,000 troops will be sent to Valencia.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez provided an update on the death toll during his speech, saying 211 people were now known to have died and many were still missing.

Sanchez insists that recovery operations must be carried out “quickly” but in a way that preserves the “dignity” of the victims and their families.

Stay tuned as we and our correspondents on the ground bring you the latest news from Spain today.
