10 Things Harris Supporters Should Remember If They’re Nervous About the Election

This essay is adapted from “MSNBC Live Democracy 2024: Insiders” virtual event featuring Jen Psaki, Steve Kornacki, Michael Steele and Claire McCaskill.

The days before an election are always a time of great anxiety. But as we approach this critical moment for our democracy, it is important to take a step back, take a deep breath and relax.

So here are 10 reasons why Vice President Kamala Harris’ supporters shouldn’t worry in these final days:

Number 1: We are more motivated.

Democratic enthusiasm has become a consistent trend in all public opinion polls. This isn’t always the case, and it certainly wasn’t the case in 2016. But since President Joe Biden resigned and Harris came in, there’s more enthusiasm on our side.

Number 2: Harris closed the gap on economic issues.

The vice president has begun to fall far behind Donald Trump on key economic issues, such as who voters think is best for the economy and who they think will take care of them. These are the things that make voters “feel”—the people who make decisions in the final two weeks of the election. This is a good sign for Harris.

Number 3: We know what we’re doing in this area.

Just think about Trump’s pal Elon Musk – he’s offering people $100 to sign a petition saying they support the First Amendment. Do you think the Democrats signed this petition? I think some did. I think people who are voting or have voted for Harris will probably be given a whole bunch of $100 bills.

Musk’s approach is not an accurate way to obtain data to find low propensity voters. This is just another example of a billionaire thinking he is the smartest person in the world. With no political campaign experience, he thinks he can get people to the polls in a crucial state like Pennsylvania.

But our team In fact knows what they are doing. We are more experienced. We’ve been building our ground game for over a year. This ground organization is what the Biden campaign did well and Harris inherited.

Number 4: Trump’s brothers and billionaires are opposing you and your family.

The former president’s reelection campaign is targeting people who think it’s important for Hulk Hogan to take his shirt off. It’s aimed at white men, bros who listen to Joe Rogan, and billionaires like Musk. This is not very attractive to people like you and me. I believe it will cost them at the ballot box.

Numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10: Dobbs and his influence on women.

We’ve already seen the data. Women appear. The 2022 polls were canceled because no one expected the Democrats to do as well as they did. Reproductive rights have been and continue to be a driving force for women voters.

And anyone who thinks that those emotions are gone when we watch women die, and when we watch women with difficult pregnancies lose the ability to have children, they won’t go away.

The women of America feel this more acutely, emotionally and passionately now than ever before. This includes Republican women and women married to Trump supporters. And I don’t care if they tell them they’re doing it or not, I guarantee a whole bunch of them will vote for Harris in this election.
