NCBJ and The Nature Conservancy join forces to support Jamaican breast cancer warriors

NATIONAL Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCBJ) has announced a partnership with The Nature Conservancy to sponsor a gazebo at the Bird Garden and a garden space at the Garden of Hope in honor of Jamaican breast cancer warriors – those battling the disease, survivors and in memory of those who is fighting breast cancer in Jamaica. who passed.

The collaboration aims to honor breast cancer warriors while also supporting essential services for those affected by breast cancer throughout Jamaica.

As part of the initiative, 30 per cent of revenue generated from the rental of the gazebo will be donated to the Jamaica Cancer Society on behalf of NCBJ over the next three years. This donation will fund resources and support programs critical to breast cancer education, screening and patient care.

Over the coming months, the space will be gradually transformed with pink flowering plants and will become a serene and reflective environment. As a symbol of hope, these flowers will honor breast cancer warriors and create a space where their stories will be respected and celebrated.

Christopher Vendris, head of retail at NCB Insurance Agency and Fund Managers Limited (NCBIA), a subsidiary of NCBJ, and Carla Myrie, chief executive of the Conservation Fund, signed a memorandum of understanding on the deal on Thursday.

To mark the start of the new partnership, the NCBJ team planted the first pink flower in the gazebo, the first step in transforming the area into a rose-filled garden of hope.

“Our commitment to this project speaks to our belief in providing more than just financial services—we are also committed to creating welcoming spaces that contribute to the well-being of our communities,” Vendris said.

“Through this space, we honor those who have fought and continue to fight, and we commit to supporting them and their families, ensuring they receive the support and recognition they deserve. This is our way of saying that their journey matters and together we can contribute to a future of hope and healing,” added Vendries.

Meanwhile, Miri said the Nature Conservancy was honored to collaborate with NCB in creating this space.

“It’s all about paying tribute to the strength, courage and spirit of Jamaican breast cancer warriors. This garden will be a living symbol of resilience, with each pink flower reflecting the journey of those affected by breast cancer. We view this space as a sanctuary for healing and remembrance, where every visitor can feel inspired by the stories of survival, hope and unity it represents,” Myrie said.
