The Melbourne Demons beat Collingwood by 47 points in the AFLW final round following Adelaide’s win over Geelong on Friday night.

The Melbourne Demons have given themselves the chance to secure the final spot in the AFLW grand finals after a crushing 47-point win over Collingwood at Princes Park.

Melbourne scored three goals to one in the first quarter and never pulled out an upset as they ran out 11.8 (74) to 4.3 winners.

Melbourne dominated across the board, with 41 inside 50s to Collingwood’s 28, and a healthy lead in clearances and contested possessions.

Skipper Kate Hoare led the way for Melbourne with three goals, while Brittany Bonnici excelled for Collingwood with two top goals.

The Demons’ sixth win of the season means they now need Carlton to beat Essendon on Saturday night at Princes Park to ensure they play in the final.

A win for the Bombers would guarantee them a place in the last eight at the expense of Melbourne.

Adelaide secured a vital win over Geelong at Cardinia Park on Friday night to secure a possible top-four finish.

The Cats led by 14 points at half-time but failed to score in the second half as the Crows came home to win 4.8 (32) to 4.4 (28).

Adelaide is in fourth place with a percentage of 173.3.

The only team that could deny them a place in the top four is Fremantle: the Dockers take on the Western Bulldogs in the final game of the round on Sunday night and will need to win by a large margin to have any chance.
