The Seattle Seahawks will be without two top pass catchers on Sunday. Wide receiver DK Metcalf and tight end Noah Fant are out for the Week 9 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Metcalf will miss his second straight game with a Grade 1 MCL sprain suffered in Week 7. Although Metcalf did not suffer a setback this week, head coach Mike McDonald said the star receiver “just needs more time” to recover.

“We’ve talked about it all the time, but he just needs more time,” MacDonald told reporters after Friday’s practice. “There’s nothing he could have done differently, we just need more time for him, so it’s better for him and the team.”

Metcalf still leads the Seahawks in receiving yards with 568 yards.

Fant is out with a groin injury he suffered during practice this week. The severity of the injury is yet to be determined, although it likely will not require a stay on IR.

“I think Noah hurt his groin in practice on Wednesday so he’ll need some time out and he’s out this week,” MacDonald said. “It will take some time. We don’t expect him to be on IR, but we’re not sure about his availability after the bye right now.”

Fant has 27 catches for 285 yards in eight games this season.

Seahawks face Rams in NFC West showdown

The Seahawks (4-4) host the Rams (3-4) on Sunday afternoon in a massive NFC West showdown.

The NFC West standings resemble a gridlock, with the Arizona Cardinals (4-4) and San Francisco 49ers (4-4) tied for first place with the Seahawks.

It’s anyone’s division, and come December it could all come down to which team is the healthiest.
