Jerry Jones ‘didn’t expect’ Cowboys to have tough season

Jerry Jones and his son Stephen Jones are great at creating word salads without much substance. However, every now and then they say something truly surprising. Jones Sr. did so Friday while discussing the challenges the Dallas Cowboys have endured in 2024.

Speaking on 105.3 The Fan, Jones said he “didn’t expect the problems we’re having with this team.”

He added that it was a plus that they were able to win three games given their inability to protect the football on offense and take it away on defense.

The most outrageous thing about his statement was how cocky Jones acted when someone tried to mention that the Cowboys would have to deal with such problems in the offseason.

Jones was told in the offseason that they needed a plan to replace all of the departing free agents, but he said they would be fine. He was also asked about their lack of talent at running back, but stated that Ezekiel Elliott is still the franchise quarterback despite his tape showing otherwise.

He then made sure we all knew what a wise investment he made in 1989 when he purchased the team, as if it gave him a Get Out of Jail Free card that he could use whenever he made a bad decision.

To make matters worse, Jones had the audacity to lash out at radio broadcasters after their blowout loss to the Detroit Lions, saying that people “with microphones” couldn’t fix the team. Even though these people with microphones saw what he couldn’t – a roster that was much worse than the one that won 12 games in 2023.

At 3-4, Dallas isn’t out of contention, but it very well could be, especially if Jones is just now starting to realize there’s a problem.
