New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson made what could be the catch of the year on Thursday, but he’s not quite ready to accept comparisons to another famous tackle.

Wilson received widespread praise for his outstanding touchdown catch in a win over the Houston Texans on Thursday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Wilson made a one-handed grab and then managed to get his leg and shin downfield for the game-tying touchdown. (video here).

Naturally, the catch drew comparisons to Odell Beckham Jr.’s tackle in the same stadium a decade earlier, but Wilson didn’t fully embrace them.

“Odell was different. And he fell two feet down. The ball was about to fall out of bounds. It’s Odell, dude. Odell vs. Cowboys. It was the same one. I’m lucky it brought this (conversation) up at all.

When one reporter pointed out that the Giants had actually lost the game in which Beckham made his famous catch, Wilson had a funny response.

“Okay. Fair enough,” Wilson grinned.

The Jets still won the game, so Wilson’s efforts were not in vain. In fact, this win could be a game-changing victory for the team.

For many, the capture of Beckham will still be decisive. However, Wilson is right – it is remarkable that his catch is worthy of comparison. He should be proud.
