A team of officials from the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) on Friday visited the tribal villages of China Konela and Buriga in Ananthagiri Mandal in ASR district and assured the tribals of power connections within the next 15 days.

Tribal officials said that EPDCL, SE GN Prasad, DE AVN Appa Rao, AD S Suresh Kumar and A.E. Lingesvara Swami visited two tribal villages in response to a report published in Hindu October 31 (Thursday). Officials told them that they do not need to provide their caste certificates for electricity connection and that their Aadhaar cards will be sufficient.

On October 30 (Wednesday), the tribals staged a protest at the Kasipatnam substation and claimed that AE had connected electricity to only four households but claimed that the connection had been made in both the villages.

On September 30, tribal representatives of the two villages lodged a complaint with the APEPDCL CMD office in Visakhapatnam, alleging that Anantagiri AE was providing wrong information. When senior officials asked the AE about this, he said that only four people had submitted their Aadhar cards and caste certificates and the rest had not submitted them.

“While 23 families had submitted their caste certificates and Aadhaar cards two months ago, AE lied that only four people had submitted documents. The tribals staged a protest on the night of Deepavali,” said CPI(M) district secretariat member K Govinda Rao. Hindu November 1 (Friday).
