Troy police are examining human remains found near Burden Pond.

Troy police are investigating the discovery of human remains found Sunday evening.

On Sunday at 5:30 p.m., Troy Police responded to a wooded area near Bearden Pond/Burden Falls in South Troy where a caller reported finding bones while walking. Officers responded, examined the remains and secured the area.

Detectives and evidence technicians responded to the scene to continue the investigation, with members of the Rensselaer County Medical Examiner’s Office and the New York State Police assisting in the investigation. The remains were determined to be human, according to police. Officers will remain on scene throughout the day to ensure the remains are properly recovered. Details are limited at this time, Troy police said.

Investigators will continue to work to determine the identity of the deceased, how long the remains were in the area, how the person may have died and whether any crime occurred.
