North Platte breaks ground on historic Village Park Flats to address housing crisis

It was a historic milestone in North Platte’s history as community leaders broke ground Wednesday on the first construction of new homes to fill the city’s housing shortage and major new employers opened in the area.

“It’s more of an answer, but it’s also a solution. It’s really because the development started with the business and now it’s growing and it’s like, “Okay, we need to continue this.” At the same time, it must be recognized that the problem has been around for some time, so it is widespread,” said Blue McGrath, a Realtor with Gateway Realty.

City officials call Village Park Flats one of the largest residential developments in the city’s history, spanning more than 40 acres. Developers expect the entire project to be completed in four to six years, with construction beginning in November.

“Originally there were four phases and they thought it would be a six-year project, but depending on, you know, the housing needs and how quickly they were building out and the triplexes and whatever they were expecting, maybe four. years, but it’s a six-year project,” said Aaron Vieira, owner and broker of Gateway Realty.

Apartments at Village Park will include triplexes, townhomes and single-family homes. Every home will have a storm shelter, and Gateway Realty is excited to bring these new, safer homes to the city.

“We have a lot of great houses in the city. A lot of them are a little older, a lot of them are 50 or 100 years old, you know, and it’s a new development on a massive scale with over 250 homes,” McGrath said.

Gateway told NTV-Novosti that the construction cost is just over $170 million and they expect the triplexes to be built as early as March next year.
