Large grass fire on Mt Wellington in Auckland

Two dozen firefighters are battling an out-of-control grass fire in suburban Auckland this afternoon.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Josh Pennefather said fire and emergency services were alerted to the fire at Mt Wellington Domain in the suburb of the same name and are now battling the fire, which is about 60 square meters in size.

“It is spreading up the hill… (but) no property is at risk at this stage.”

Pennefather said he also had no knowledge of anyone being in danger.
