I admit that I am quite susceptible to marketing claims. For example, I am now the proud owner of a cat litter bag that, as the name suggests, is the best cat litter in the world.

Statements like these always send me down a rabbit hole. First of all, given that the goal of cat litter is to be one step above the sand, I feel like the bar for being the “best” in the world isn’t very high. Plus part of me wonders – according to whom? Was there some kind of cat council convened in a secret hideout where dozens of cat litter managers brought their boxes for inspection? Who is the hardest to impress? Because we have a very gassy cat and I think she’s probably going blind at this point. But we have another cat who seems to be very picky about these things because if one litter box is a little out of date, he goes into a fit of rage, howling over his shoulder and putting one paw in the litter box until someone comes see if he’s beheaded or anything like that.
