Chaudhry calls for equality in Diwali message – FBC News

Unity and peace cannot be achieved as long as inequality exists.

This is the Diwali message shared by the Fiji Labor Party and its leader Mahendra Chaudhry.

Chaudhry says that every year as Diwali approaches, we are reminded that it signifies the victory of good over evil, that light dispels darkness, enlightening us to abandon ignorance for knowledge that leads to truth and happiness.

He says that, nevertheless, these teachings remain largely a dream, swallowed up by the realities of life.

The FLP leader says we must, however, continue to strive for a better Fiji outcome for everyone.

He says that as a nation we must recognize that the various ethnic communities that make up Fiji are interdependent in terms of their socio-economic existence.

Chaudhry also emphasizes the need to embrace equal citizenship for all who have made Fiji their home, as this is fundamental to Fiji’s development, peace and prosperity.

It calls for an end to all forms of racial discrimination to unite us as one people.

He says a united Fiji will benefit the younger generation the most by creating opportunities for them that may have been denied them under the political instability and economic uncertainty of the past and present.

Chaudhry encourages people to work together, young and old, to make Fiji truly a nation united in peace and harmony.
