Jaguar Land Rover sees surge in customer demand for plug-in hybrid models – Car Dealer Magazine

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has seen demand for its plug-in hybrid models rise, with global sales up 29% year on year.

According to the brand, sales of PHEV models were up 47% among Range Rover models and 23% among Defender plug-in hybrid models.

Sales of Range Rover plug-in hybrids almost doubled over the same period in 2022-2023.

PHEV models are based on JLR’s Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA), which is designed to accommodate internal combustion engines (ICE), plug-in electric hybrids (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The platform will power JLR vehicles well into the 2030s, including the highly anticipated all-electric Range Rover, the first in a range of zero-emission electric vehicles that currently has a waiting list of more than 48,000 customers worldwide.

The carmaker is investing £500 million at its Halewood plant near Liverpool, transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility that will eventually become JLR’s first all-electric facility.

Mark Camilleri, director of electrification services, said: “Demand for our plug-in electric hybrid models is growing as customers become more comfortable with electrification. PHEVs provide performance, fuel economy and low emissions with zero emissions when driving in pure electric mode.

“They also give customers the opportunity to adapt to new ownership experiences, including home and public charging, ahead of the launch of our next generation of all-electric vehicles.

“JLR can offer a range of fuel options to meet the dynamics of the energy transition in each market, and we will offer a pure electric option on every nameplate by 2030, with the aim of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2039.”

JLR has yet to confirm any firm plans for the future of Jaguar, which will produce one model line (the F-Pace) until at least the end of 2025.
