Gilmer coach Alan Metzel says the team is finding ‘its own identity’

GILMER, Texas (KLTV) – The Gilmer Buckeyes are coming off a district loss to Pleasant Grove, but coach Alan Metzel believes this team is starting to find its footing.

Metzel spoke with Michael Coleman on Wednesday’s Red Zone Preview show.

Metzel believes identity has been the biggest change for the Buckeyes football team.

“Our guys have been a team for 24 years,” Metzel said. “We must have our own identity. So, playing with tough people puts you in a vulnerable position.”

Metzel knows that as the defending state champions, they get the best chance from each team, and Friday against Spring Hill will be no exception.

“Coach Joslin at Spring Hill, he has some continuity there,” Metzel said. “The guys play very seriously. You can see that and you can see his fingerprints on the team.”

Gilmer and Spring Hill will kick off Friday at 7 p.m.
