FA Cup: Worthing aim to cause more trouble for Morecambe in first round

Agutter said Worthing were keen to take the field against Derek Adams’ side, who they expect to lack confidence having scored 11 goals in their last three games in a row.

“We go into every game on the front foot, be aggressive, attack,” he added.

“It’s great to welcome a Football League club to Woodside. This is a great opportunity for us to show what we can do, try to impress our opponents with our performance and play on our terms. We are ready to succeed.”

Aguter said his team were keenly aware that the long route, unfamiliar playing surface and contrasting kit played to their advantage, adding: “I think it’s a very awkward draw for them. We are playing well, we are two points behind, there are many opportunities. factors that influence this to be a really tough draw for Morecambe.

“Winning can become a habit, but losing can also become a habit – there are real dynamics on both sides of the coin in terms of the two clubs. We will play on this.”

“We’ll go into the game with a lot of confidence and the intention of trying to impress them with our performance, even though they’re a League Two club.”

“It’s about how can we expose them, where are their weak links, how can our strengths expose their weaknesses? It’s about whether we can do what we do really well.”

With the prize money for the winner being £45,000, victory has big financial implications, but Agutter added: “The financial side is good for the club, but the most important thing for us from a footballing point of view is the opportunity to test ourselves against Football League clubs.

“In my opinion, the prestige and opportunity to progress beyond the first round far outweighs the financial benefits. We want to show Morecambe what we can do.”
