M4 MacBook Air: Here’s everything to come

M4 MacBook Air: Here’s everything to come

Apple released its first M4 Macs, but the most popular Mac was not among them. The MacBook Air has not yet received the M4 chip. But here’s everything we know about when this update will arrive and what else to expect from the new model.

M4 MacBook Air release date

Following the debut of the MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini this week, Apple’s Mac lineup is locked in until the end of 2024.

So when will the new MacBook Air be released?

The reports indicate early 2025 — M4 MacBook Air release date.

For more specific information, March most likely month in which it will be launched.

Last year, the M3 Air debuted in March. Apple also historically does more product releases in March than in January or February.

Expected new features

MacBook Air Apple Intelligence

Rumors about new features for the MacBook Air have been minimal. However, Apple’s just-released new Macs are giving us plenty of hints about what’s to come with the new MacBook Air.

Here’s what to expect:

  • M4 chip for higher performance
  • 16 GB base RAM
  • Neural Engine is capable of 38 trillion operations per second
  • 12 MP Center Stage camera
  • improved battery life
  • probably an option for displaying nanotextures

All this makes the device optimized for Apple Intelligence and gives Air users more of what they love.

The MacBook Air M4 will continue to be available in the same 13-inch and 15-inch versions. This brings us to the things that don’t change with the new model.

What not to expect

M4 Pro M4 Max

The MacBook Air was redesigned with the release of the M2 in 2022, and Apple has no plans to change this core design anytime soon.

As a result, the MacBook Air M4 will not receive a new design, but will retain the existing appearance of the M2 and M3 models and the same sizes of 13 and 15 inches.

Additionally, although Apple just introduced new M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, they are unlikely to be available in any MacBook Air configurations.

One of the ways Apple differentiates its laptops is by keeping the MacBook Air only powered by the base M series chip, while the MacBook Pro comes with more powerful Pro and Max variants.

The M4 Air will also likely retain its existing $1,099 starting price, following the pattern of Apple’s other M4 Macs to date.

M4 MacBook Air: summary

The new MacBook Air isn’t expected to radically change the game, but it should have plenty of powerful upgrades—like other M4 Macs—that make it an attractive buy.
