Walker Buehler, former Vanderbilt standout, records the save and makes the World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Walker Buehler is now a two-time World Series champion. The former Vanderbilt standout joined the small club, recording the Los Angeles Dodgers’ final outs Wednesday night against the New York Yankees.

Buehler helped the Dodgers to a 3-0 record by pitching 5 two-hit innings Monday night, striking out 5 while walking only 2 of his 18 batters faced. On Wednesday night, Dodger captain Dave Roberts turned to Buehler to get the final 3 outs in Game 5. Buehler retired the Yankees in order, securing a 7–6 victory for Los Angeles and ending the series 4–1.

With a win and a save in the postseason series, Buehler joined an exclusive club.

Few could have predicted that Buehler would play such an important role in the World Series. Returning from a 2022 injury that led to his second Tommy John surgery, Buehler posted his worst regular season numbers in 2024. In 16 starts, Buehler was 1-6 with a 5.38 ERA in 75.1 innings.

Buehler wasn’t sure he would make the Dodgers’ postseason roster, but he largely proved Roberts right by tossing 6 shutout innings in the World Series. Buehler spent his entire professional career with the Dodgers, winning his first World Series ring with the club in 2020.
