Mom criticizes kindergarten over ‘bloody’ Halloween decorations

As a huge horror fan, my standards for what scared my child were pretty low.

But it seems I’m atypical/I’m a negligent mother.

Mother last week wrote for Children’s place that she’s a “Halloween Prude” and wants to make sure public decorations don’t scare her young children.

Now a Melbourne mum is concerned about children’s “bloody handprints” on display at her child’s nursery.

“Halloween Decorations in Kinder”

A mom wrote in a Facebook group asking if other parents would be shocked:

“I was horrified (no pun intended) to discover that the three-year-old nursery (room) at our local center had decorated its window with the handprints of the children in the classroom, with blood stains on them… some trailing down as if hinting at some kind of suffering.

“I understand that they want to get to the bottom (again, no pun intended) of things. But there are plenty of other decorating ideas they can try that won’t harm the baby.

“Not to mention it can be triggering for people who have experienced trauma or violence. Thoughts?”

There was no photo in the post, but we’re guessing it looked something like this:

“Halloween is not suitable for children”

The comments section was divided over the mom’s post.

“So unnecessary,” one agreed. “If you don’t speak up now, this will turn into something bigger and worse next year. I can’t understand why people think Halloween is appropriate for children (accepting candy from strangers – hmm, hello?!)”

This woman had a stronger point of view: “This is not an accident or entertainment. It’s time for all of us to open our eyes wider to many things that concern our children.

“Parents getting killed in children’s movies, dark nursery rhymes, that Halloween crap… there’s so much we need to rethink based on how we’re all conditioned to participate and normalize so many perverted things.”

“Personally, I don’t see a problem”

There were some commenters who didn’t agree with Mom at all.

“I think people can be a little oversensitive. If this had a negative impact on the children, I would be absolutely worried, if not, then personally I don’t see a problem,” one of them wrote diplomatically.

Another mom added: “Yeah, I would probably just politely suggest to the center management that they stick to kids’ Halloween decor. No need to bring blood and gore into this. I’m guessing the staff just got a little excited while decorating.”

Then a calm voice was heard: “The great thing about children’s minds is that they are innocent. I think you’re too sensitive.

“I understand that they want to get to the bottom (again, no pun intended) of things. But there are plenty of other decoration ideas they can try that don’t depict any harm to the child,” she continued. rahut – stock.adobe.com
Just last week, another mother called herself a “Halloween Shy” because she doesn’t want people scaring her kids. Tatyana Foxy – stock.adobe.com

“They will be exposed to more tricks or treats. My son went to preschool Halloween last year dressed as a bloody zombie.”

In the end, this mom thought it was all funny.

“Omg, are people really that gloomy in society? I’m pretty sure it doesn’t traumatize them because they know it’s paint and their handprints.

“In many stores, things are much worse. Stop hiding your children and teach them to pretend to entertain themselves in real life, and they won’t be traumatized by it.”
