Important Quote

“Mr. Combs and his legal team have complete confidence in the facts, their legal defense and the integrity of the trial,” Combs’ lawyers said in October, their latest consistent denial of any wrongdoing. “The truth will prevail in court: Mr. Combs never sexually abused anyone, adult or minor, male or female.”

Key background

The allegations contained in the lawsuits against Combs date back to the 1990s and have so far included victims who say they were only 13 years old at the time of the abuse. In addition to individual assault claims – most of which also include allegations that Combs drugged alleged victims – the lawsuit filed by Jones made allegations of a widespread Hollywood conspiracy that allowed Combs’ behavior to go unchecked for decades. In his statement, Jones detailed the sex and drug parties Combs allegedly hosted and accused him of running a “sex trafficking enterprise” that was largely ignored by others in the music industry. The complaint alleges that Combs hosted parties at which he, his son and his employees recruited women and underage girls to perform sexual acts for money “through force, threats of force, fraud, abuse of process and coercion.” The suit says people associated with the parties were rewarded with business referrals and connections to Combs’ vast network of artists, athletes, political figures and international dignitaries. Sean Holley, Combs’ lawyer at the time, told the Los Angeles Times that the lawsuit involves “the reckless disclosure of events that are pure fiction and simply did not happen.”

Jackson confirmed on Twitter that the streamer had bought G-Unit Film & Television’s Combs series, which it first teased in December, adding that “if victims keep showing up, I’ll need more episodes.” Proceeds from the film will go to victims of sexual assault, Jackson announced in November.
