The new boss will give up the terrible Ten Hag, who signed the contract for the first transfer in the squad renewal

The new boss will give up the terrible Ten Hag, who signed the contract for the first transfer in the squad renewal

According to the report, the first victim of the Ruben Amorim era has been named and the new Manchester United manager is expected to give the go-ahead for Anthony’s departure.

Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag on Monday after being frustrated by the team’s lack of progress under the Dutchman. A host of names have been linked with the role in recent months, including Thomas Frank, Graham Potter and Edin Terzic, but Amorim looks set to take over the role.

United have quickly reached an agreement with the Sporting manager over his new contract at Old Trafford and the project he will be involved in, according to Fabrizio Romano.

With a compensation package yet to be agreed, the Portuguese press are reporting that United will send a delegation to Portugal this evening to agree terms with Sporting. This is despite the fact that Sporting played Nacional tonight in the quarter-finals of the Taca da Liga (Portuguese League Cup).

Amorim’s contract with Sporting includes a €10m (£8.3m/$10.8m) buyout clause for big clubs like United, and the Red Devils look set to pay that amount in full.

According to United’s update from talkSPORTAnthony is believed to be the first player to leave Old Trafford following Amorim’s arrival.

The winger has “already been told he could leave United in January and Amorim has no plans to use him at all.

The report mentions that Anthony’s former team Ajax and Brazilian club Flamengo were interested in the winger, who cost United a staggering £82 million, rising to £86 million (up to €103.4 million/€111. $8 million) in summer 2022.

However, United chiefs are keenly aware that they would have to take a ‘huge’ financial hit in selling Anthony as no club would be willing to pay that kind of sum to sign him.

The report adds that Ten Hag’s devotion to the Brazilian last season – even when he was seriously underperforming – caused problems in the dressing room.

The Red Devils are hoping to cut ties with Anthony

It was previously reported that Newcastle United and Crystal Palace could open talks for Anthony, believing he is much better than what he showed at United.

Meanwhile, a return to Ajax is likely to be via loan as they will need help to meet his £200,000-a-week wages.

Amorim allowing Anthony to leave was one of his first acts as United manager and would immediately appeal to the majority of the club’s fans. They are tired of the player not living up to expectations, while INEOS consider the £86m deal that brought him to England to be terrible value for money.

Amorim will likely use one of Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho or Marcus Rashford on the right flank instead of Anthony.

Capturing United’s 39-year-old tactician could also help them in their search for Sporting starlet Giovani Kenda.

United sporting director Dan Ashworth is reportedly hoping to sign the 17-year-old striker in a transfer that bears similarities to Cristiano Ronaldo’s first move to Old Trafford.

However, Sporting rate Kenda highly and could demand as much as €100m (£83.1m/$108m) to try and contain United.

Latest Manchester United news: targets for Amorim appear

While Anthony could soon leave United, Amorim is drawing up a list of transfer targets to help the club return to the top of English and European football.

TEAMtalk can reveal that defender Gonzalo Inacio and strikers Marcus Edwards and Pedro Goncalves are three of Sporting’s top stars he would like to reunite with at United.

United’s pursuit of Inacio creates the possibility of a transfer battle with Liverpool as they are also big admirers of the centre-back.

Tottenham Hotspur fans will likely be interested to see how Edwards fares at United when he comes through their academy before leaving for Portugal in September 2019.

Separate reports have also backed Amorim’s bid to sign lethal Sporting striker Victor Guioqueres, although the move looks difficult to complete.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea are currently considered the main suitors for Jokeres in England.

Sporting will demand €60-70 million (up to £58.2 million/$75.6 million) for the Swedish star next summer, despite having a €100 million release clause in his contract.
