The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS) has announced a Halloween curfew for sex offenders on probation or parole.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – With Halloween just a few days away, the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardons is making sure your little ghouls and goblins are treated to treats rather than dangerous tricks. The agency announces a curfew for sex offenders on Halloween night.

All registered sex offenders are required to adhere to a statewide curfew from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, according to the department. During these hours, all offenders under supervision for crimes against a child will not be able to participate in any activities. events that encourage minors to come into their homes and they are not allowed to attend carnivals and Halloween parties. In addition, porch and outdoor lights must be turned off, they will be allowed to leave their homes for limited times, and they will not be allowed to hand out candy.

Officials say sex offenders will be monitored by agents who will make home visits on Halloween night.

SCDPPPS officials say in 2023, 174 agents conducted 624 home inspections on Halloween night across the state. Authorities say six arrests were made on Halloween night for a total of 11 arrests in October.
