The Jersey Football Association has set out a “bold and ambitious” vision for the future.

The association has pledged that by 2028, three quarters of Jersey’s football clubs will have women’s or girls’ teams.

The Jersey Football Association (JFA) has launched a four-year business strategy outlining its “bold and ambitious” vision for the future of football on the island.

Plans include improving access to training facilities, providing equal opportunities, tackling bad behavior in the game and developing a network of volunteers, coaches and referees.

Jimmy Kelly, chairman of the Jersey Football Association, said the strategy was “big and bold” and he was “delighted to see it unfold and become a reality over the next four years.”

He said: “This strategy reflects our commitment to making our sport more inclusive, particularly for women and girls, and to drive further investment in sporting facilities and infrastructure that will benefit the wider community.

“This is already a season of significant change for the Jersey Football Association, in office, at board level and on the pitch, and so now is the ideal time to be clear about what we will focus on.”

“Ambitious Plan”

The FA said there are plans to reduce the number of matches postponed due to bad weather by building two new 3G artificial pitches by 2028.

It also hoped to improve “community wellbeing” by becoming a leading charity for reducing social isolation.

Jersey women’s national team player Tiff Sanby said she was “delighted to see an ambitious plan to provide more opportunities for women and girls”.

“If these goals are achieved, the women’s game will be a really strong place for our island.”
