It was recently reported that Princess Eugenie found herself in a “precarious position” between Prince Harry and King Charles. Now a respected royal expert has suggested that Charles is probably grateful for his connection to Harry through Eugenie.

In a new interview with the magazine FINE! In the magazine, former BBC royal correspondent Jenny Bond said of the situation: “Eugene undoubtedly has a really difficult task of maintaining good relations with both Harry and Meghan, as well as the rest of the royal family.”

Bond continued: “But I think the King is probably glad that Harry still has at least one royal cousin that he clearly trusts and apparently wants to see more of.”

Noting that members of the royal family are often incredibly busy, Bond suggested that any connection between the king and the Duke of Sussex is incredibly important.

“However, I think it is a positive thing that Charles has someone he can safely ask about Harry’s well-being if he so chooses. And Harry can presumably gauge the family’s mood through Eugenie.”

“Any reconciliation – which still seems unlikely at this stage – has to start somewhere, with someone,” Bond said. “And that person could be Eugenie.”

Bond suggested that rumors about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to buy property in Portugal near Princess Eugenie’s home show how close they are.

“I think it probably shows that they really want their children to know at least part of their British family,” Bond told the publication. “Archie and Lilibet will benefit from spending time with their little cousins, and Eugenie will remain an important link between Harry and the rest of his family.”

Regardless of what happens between the royal family as a whole, it looks like Eugenie and Harry will remain closely linked.

Discussing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s big decision, Bond said: “I don’t quite understand why they feel they need to buy a place… rather than just staying with Jack and Eugenie or renting a place, but it does suggest they intend to spend more time on this side of the Atlantic.”
