Warm weather ahead, showers and storms approaching for Halloween

Warm weather ahead, showers and storms approaching for Halloween

After a mostly dry and cool weekend, warm weather has returned as a warm front rises around an area of high pressure. Surface highs will remain to our east, which will continue to promote southerly winds and temperatures in the lower to mid 80s in a couple of summer days. A cold front will move in our direction as warmer, more humid air continues to accumulate in the Mid-South. Showers and storms will develop along and toward a cold front heading our way late Wednesday, with most of the rain lingering in the west through Thursday morning.

Most of the rain will move into western Tennessee by Thursday evening and continue through the afternoon and early evening.

Good rain is expected Thursday, mostly during the afternoon, but some showers could linger into Halloween night. Right now, the three-day forecast only has a major risk to our west on Wednesday, with some storms eventually making it into western Tennessee. Some may be strong until Thursday afternoon. 1m

We want to be aware of the weather, especially on Thursday afternoon. Long-range models currently show the bulk of thunderstorms and heavy rain occurring from about 11 a.m. (in the West) to about 4 p.m. (I-40 area) and until about 6 p.m. in the Tennessee River area. Either way, it will still be pouring rain after this, so bring an umbrella if you plan to go outside.

The chance of the heaviest rain and thunderstorms looks to be mostly before 8pm, with the overall chance of rain falling soon after, so those heading out late in the evening have a slightly better chance of not getting fooled by Mother Nature.

(The chance of rain will be higher in the afternoon and early evening, as shown below, the chance of rain will be lower at night)

We’re still a few days away, so the exact time will likely shift a bit, so keep an eye on StormTeam 7 for the latest Halloween weather news. The weekend will be mostly dry, but areas will be much cooler. Highs will only be in the upper 60s by Friday! We can expect lows in the 70s on Saturday and near 80s on Sunday. Another system looks to approach us again next Monday with a few showers.

**Also, don’t forget to turn back the clock on Saturday night, because at 2am on Sunday we will “roll back” an hour, gaining an extra hour of sleep**
