Sydney Brown makes history of a different kind during the Eagles’ trip to Cincinnati.

Sydney Brown makes history of a different kind during the Eagles’ trip to Cincinnati.

Most of us are only promised a football career that will last until we graduate from high school (if that long). However, it is not lost on us that it takes a different type of animal to work as hard as he can to earn the opportunity to play at the highest level of football for the Philadelphia Eagles.

And there are guys from countries where our wonderful game is not the most popular sport. Their chances of facing stronger competition and finding a suitable coach are slim. That’s why we have the utmost respect for what guys like Jordan Mailata have done.

Mailaita didn’t know how to put on his helmet when he arrived at the NovaCare facility. The learning curve was not as steep for Sydney. The CFL will never be as interesting as the NFL, but we know that over there in Canada they play our football.

We’ve also seen Canadian-born stars shine, such as Pro Football Hall of Famer Bronko Nagurski. We also have to give a run to current players like Chase Claypool, Chuba Hubbard, Michael Hocht, Jevon Holland and Sydney’s twin brother Chase.

Sydney Brown played three snaps Sunday, all as a running back. Chase had a busier day. He played 28 snaps, roughly 48% of the total defensive snaps. The Bengals’ 12 carries on the day produced 32 yards and one of the Bengals’ pair of touchdowns.

We’re glad the right team (Philadelphia) won, but we’re also happy for the Brown family. Chase and Sydney were teammates at Illinois but were rivals on Sunday.

Oh, and while we’re on the subject of history… We’re pretty sure this is the first T-shirt swap we’ve seen hosted by the twins.

Before playing for the Fighting Illini, Sydney and Chase spent time at Southern University College in London.

St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Bradenton, Florida. Chase spent a year at Western Michigan (2018) while Sidney started as a true freshman at Illinois. They played together in Champagne from 2019 to 2022.

Sidney was selected 66th overall in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Chase was taken two rounds later in 163rd place overall. That same year, he was drafted 59th overall in the CFL and 59th overall.

We’re sure Week 8 was a big moment for them and their family, but again… We’re glad the right team won.
