The Menendez brothers will appear in court for the first time in 28 years.

Watch as Erik and Lyle Menendez stand trial for the first time in 28 years after killing their parents with a shotgun.

A judge will decide today whether the discovery of new evidence warrants a review of the brothers’ sentences.

In 1989, the brothers were convicted of murdering their parents Jose and Kitty Menendez and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Throughout the previous trial, the brothers’ lawyer argued that the brothers were sexually abused by their father for years. However, prosecutors rejected this accusation and instead accused them of killing their parents for money.

For several years after their conviction, their lawyers tried unsuccessfully to appeal the court’s decision. A petition for habeas corpus was filed before March 2023, asking for new evidence to be considered to support allegations of sexual abuse inflicted by their father.

Their story was dramatized in the 2022 Netflix docuseries Monsters, which stars Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Eric and Lyle Menendez.
