Cummins remains in trouble for allegedly violating Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and federal government policies.

The federal government has accused the diesel engine maker of violating the Clean Air Act. The lawsuit resulted in a $2 billion settlement, but Cummins could still face additional penalties from Ram truck drivers.

The EPA says Cummins installed illegal emissions control devices on about 630,000 Ram trucks built between 2013 and 2019, according to Yahoo Autos.

Additionally, the manufacturer allegedly failed to disclose information about auxiliary emissions control devices on more than 330,000 model year 2020-2023 Ram pickups.

As part of the settlement, the EPA requires Cummins to update the emissions software on 85% of its trucks within three years or face new fines.

But Cummins would desperately want to avoid paying additional fines after paying its largest Clean Air Act fine ever. So please download the software update. It will only take an hour and will not require any changes to the equipment.

Cummins also said fuel economy remained virtually unchanged as a result of the update. Additionally, drivers who frequently tow heavy loads should not notice a decrease in mpg.

But the update could affect the amount of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) trucks use. But the change in fuel consumption is only about 1.5%. Heavy-duty truck volume could increase by 2.5%.

To attract more people, Cummins is upgrading for free and offering gift sets. In addition, drivers will receive an extended warranty on emissions components.
