The Dallas Cowboys took on the Washington Commanders on Sunday but came out victorious 34-10.

Washington had every chance to pull off the win, but the chances slipped due to poor special teams coverage and two missed extra point attempts.

The Cowboys, led by backup quarterback Cooper Rush, outgained the Commanders 176 yards to 113 in the first half. Both teams had 19 first downs, but Washington was more efficient in converting third downs, 4-12 to 2-11. near Dallas.

Rush was efficient, completing 24 of 32 pass attempts for a total of 247 yards. Star Commanders rookie Jayden Daniels was 25 of 38 for 275 yards but threw two interceptions. Washington had better luck on the ground, gaining 145 yards on 25 carries and relying on the running game for its only scoring drive of the first half. Dallas’ 28 rushing attempts totaled just 91 yards.

The Cowboys (3-7) fell short of their state opponent last week. The Texans’ offense had 21 first downs, five passing scores and one defensive touchdown. Quarterback C.J. Stroud finished the night 23 of 34 for 257 yards.

The Cowboys scored 10 points despite 381 yards of offense. Rush threw for 354 yards on 32 of 55 passing.

Washington has lost two of its last three games, both by one possession. Daniels has now thrown for 2,338 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has defended the ball well this season with just three interceptions.

Cowboys vs Commanders updates

The Cowboys ended their five-game skid on the road with a 34-26 win after Israel Mukuamu intercepted Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary attempt with seconds on the clock.

Austin Ekeler went down after the kickoff from 36 yards out.

Juanier Thomas catches Washington’s punt and runs up the middle for a 43-yard touchdown to extend the Cowboys’ lead to 34-26.

The Dallas offense is struggling and decides to run around a little more before striking out. Washington takes over at their own 14-yard line. Jayden Daniels’ stare at Terry McClorin for an 86-yard touchdown was successful. Austin Seibert misses his second extra point of the day, 27-26.

Austin Seibert’s 51-yard field goal attempt is good and makes it 27-20. Washington fails to recover the offside kick and Dallas takes over on offense.

KaVontae Turpin misses a kick from the Dallas five-yard line. Once possession is secured, he moves freely through the Commanders’ special teams and takes the ball to the house for a 95-yard touchdown. The extra point is useful to make the score 27-17.

Washington marches down the field and Zach Ertz scores a touchdown. Dallas called a timeout, but this did not bother Jayden Daniels, who successfully converted a two-point pass and made the score 20-17.

The Commander’s coverage was broken and Luke Schoonmaker threw a high pass 22 yards up the middle to give the Cowboys the lead. Austin Ekeler kicks off at the 30-yard line.

The leaders leave the field and go on the attack after another three and an out. Dallas takes over at the 50 and settles for a 48-yard field goal attempt. The shot was good and the score was 13-9, but the personal foul penalties on both sides were canceled out.

Cooper Rush’s pass is incomplete and Dallas punts. Trent Sieg tracks the ball and catches it from the Washington 5 where they will take over.

After the third straight punt, Dallas takes over at their own 23. A high snap and a bad pass nearly gets the Cowboys in trouble, but they recover. A rough attack by the passer on the next snap moves the ball forward.

According to rules expert Mike Pereira, no serious steps were taken to determine whether Chinn’s reception was a stroke of luck. The call confirmed the call. The Dallas Pants and Cowboys will each receive 45 points.

After Tyler Guyton held the ball, a foul play penalty saved Dallas from a potential fumble after Jeremy Chinn’s hard tackle on Jalen Brooks knocked the ball loose. Officials believed it was an incomplete transmission, but Washington disputed whether that was an error.

Cooper Rush’s deep throw is challenged on the end zone line and Noah Igbinoghene is called for defensive pass interference, putting the Cowboys on first and scoring five yards from the end zone. Despite losing a yard on first down, Rush finds Jalen Tolbert for a touchdown on second and goal. The extra point is good for a 10-9 lead.

Jayden Daniels scores the first touchdown of the game with a 17-yard touchdown run on third-and-3. The Commanders take the lead but miss the extra point to make the score 9-3. Washington converted all three third downs on the drive.

Brandon Aubrey’s kickoff misses the touchdown zone, so Washington will have strong field position to start.

The Cowboys broke a streak of three straight drives that ended with a punt, scoring their first points of the day. Buoyed by Jalen Brooks’ 41-yard field goal, Dallas gets a 46-yard field goal from Brandon Aubrey.

After the failure in Dallas, Washington lost three matches and was eliminated. On an attack that started with their own pick-six, the Cowboys were able to push the ball out of the shadows of their goal line. But a poor kick caused the ball to be knocked down and Dallas fired from their 21st point. Washington had the ball only five times before punting again.

A fumble by Dallas running back Rico Dowdle on the first play of the possession allowed Washington to get the ball back to the Dallas 47.

Five straight runs pushed the Commanders into the Cowboys’ 35. But after an incompletion on third-and-2 from the 32, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn decided to attempt a 51-yard field goal. Austin Seibert was unable to connect this time. This year he is just 1 of 4 on kicks over 50 yards.

Cooper Rush was again able to move the ball against the Chiefs, but the special teams unit was again unable to complete the kick. Brandon Aubrey’s 42-yard field goal attempt hit the right upright to keep the score 3-0. Washington will replace its 32.

Washington took advantage of good field position and scored the first points of the game. The seven-play possession spanned less than 20 yards but ended with a 41-yard field goal by punter Austin Seibert. Quarterback Jayden Daniels converted third-and-12 with a 16-yard run on the drive.

Quarterback Cooper Rush found receiver CeeDee Lamb several times during the seven-play, 48-yard drive. But Washington 17’s placekicker Brandon Aubrey’s field goal attempt was blocked by Commanders cornerback Quan Martin. Washington will begin its drive at the Dallas 40 upon its return.

The commanders won the toss and decided to postpone the game.
