Poll shows people approve of new administrator’s choice

(NewsNation) — Lawmakers and leaders are making the case for and against some of the people President-elect Donald Trump is choosing to join his new administration.

Meanwhile, a CBS News/YouGov poll shows 59% approve of how Trump is handling his return to the White House.

For example, 44% of respondents believe that Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio would be a good choice for Secretary of State. 47% thought Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was a good choice for Secretary of Health and Human Services, and 33% thought the same about Fox News host Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. Tulsi Gabbard was considered a good choice for Director of National Intelligence by 36% of people.

What did Brendan Carr, Trump’s chosen chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, say in Project 2025?

While Trump’s current picks for agency heads and cabinet ministers were rated as positive by CBS pollsters, the news outlet noted that many haven’t yet heard enough about the candidates to evaluate them. There was also a clear partisan divide, but fewer than half of Democrats surveyed said they felt motivated to actively oppose Trump at this point.

Along with the new administration, Americans are also optimistic about Trump’s policies.

According to the poll, 44% of people believed Trump’s actions would cause food and grocery prices to fall, while 35% believed they would cause them to rise. On immigration, 57% support Trump’s planned mass deportation of illegal migrants into the country. When it comes to who should carry out deportations, 82% said immigration and border enforcement should do it; 64% want to leave it up to federal law enforcement, while 40% say it should be done by the U.S. military.
