Tortilla chips recalled due to undeclared gluten content

Sugar Foods is recalling Santa Fe-Style 3.5-ounce Fresh Gourmet Tortilla Strips bags because the ingredient list may lead some consumers to believe they are gluten-free. This is not true – they contain wheat, which is not listed in the composition.

The recall includes packages with UPC code 7 87359 17504 6 and an expiration date of June 20, 2025. People who have a wheat allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat are at risk of severe or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the product.

On November 19, 2024, a consumer contacted the business and reported that the bags contained crispy onions instead of tortilla strips. Crispy Onion Strips contain wheat, which is not listed on the tortilla strips label. To date, no cases of the disease have been reported.

The expiration date is located on the back of the package above the UPC code.

Product distributed between September 30, 2024 and November 11, 2024. Product is packaged in stand-up resealable pouches and shipped to distribution centers in:

Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington.
