PITTSFORD — Twice Saturday afternoon, a train passed along the tracks located steps away from the scoreboard at Pittsford Sutherland High School’s Ordiway Field.

Each time the engineer beeped twice.

For those who play and watch the 8-man New York State High School Athletic Association Far West Regional, it was hard to ignore, just as it was hard to ignore the figurative “powerhouse” who wore number 3 for Pembroke of Section V.

Running back Caleb Felski unofficially rushed for 445 yards on 36 carries and scored five touchdowns to lead the Dragons to a 50-19 win over Frewsburg.

The win, Pembroke’s 34th in a row, moves it into the West semifinals at noon this Friday against Section III’s Frankfort-Schuyler at Vestal High School in suburban Binghamton.

You can only guess who will undoubtedly be featured in the Mustangs.

He’s good,” Frewsburg head coach Rob Collver said, “but our kids didn’t do their job. In an eight-man game, if you don’t do your job, it’s a touchdown (because) you don’t have security there. You don’t have an extra defender and that’s what happens.”

Further exacerbating the problem was the fact that the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Felski is not a “one-trick pony.”

In addition to his monster rushing numbers (he’s now amassed nearly 3,500 yards on the ground and scored 51 touchdowns on the season), Felski also threw a touchdown pass to Vijay Dhanda; made a pair of two-point conversions; and on defense intercepted two passes and recovered the ball to thwart three scoring chances for Frewsburg.

Caleb Kimmel scored another Pembroke touchdown on a 57-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

Despite several injuries, Frewsburg trailed just 16-12 entering the second quarter, but was unable to contain Felski, allowing the Mustangs to claim the road win.

For the Bears, Trent Lewis threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Chase Haglund in the first quarter; Lewis, who also rushed for 129 yards on 19 carries, scored on a 2-yard run in the second period; and Henry Eckert caught Drake Beckstrom’s 16-yard scoring strike in the fourth quarter.

“I’m very pleased with them,” Colver said. “They played hard and did most of what we wanted. We moved the ball up and down the field, but we had (interceptions) and a fumble on the 1-yard line. If we turn them into points, it will be a completely different game.”
