(Politics)South Korea and Malaysia adopted a joint statement calling for the dismantling of weapons of mass destruction in North Korea

President Yoon Seok-yeol and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim agreed to call for the complete, verifiable and irreversible destruction (CVID) of North Korea’s weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles. President Yoon

held a summit today (25th) with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar, who made an official visit to South Korea, and adopted a joint statement on the issue, establishing a strategic partnership ahead of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.

The two countries also expressed concern about deepening military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, condemned North Korea’s ballistic missile launches and urged them to refrain from further provocations and illegal activities.

The presidential office said it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Malaysia on the occasion of the summit, strengthened defense and defense cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to complete negotiations on a free trade agreement between Korea and Malaysia by 2025.

It was the first time in five years that the prime minister of Malaysia, Korea’s third-largest trading partner among ASEAN countries, visited Korea, and Prime Minister Anwar visited Korea for the first time since his inauguration.
