When Sydney jeweler Gillian Kilgour’s good friend Zwele was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, he asked her to make a pendant for his wife. This was not a standard commission.

First, the words and symbols of the couple’s favorite songs were written on the 18-karat gold necklace. The reverse also featured an ornate star and “Z” accented with diamonds. But perhaps its most unusual feature was a chamber designed to hold his ashes when he eventually died, which he did a year later.
