Deepavali is also known as the Festival of Lights. The festival usually symbolizes the victory of light over darkness. It’s possible that this year’s Deepavali videos are spreading positivity and giving us timely reminders to treat others better and be more mindful.

Below you can watch some fantastically written Deepavali videos in no particular order.

1. Marupakkam/Other Side | Astro Ulagam

Astro Ulagam’s video for Deepavali reminds everyone to take time to think and not jump to conclusions, no matter what they see at face value. This lesson is a timely reminder in the age of social media and viral videos. In Marupakkam, the video shows two possible outcomes if only one would stop and take care of the others.

2. Spark in the Dark | Taylor University

Deepavali’s video from Taylor University also gives another important message in the age of social media. The Spark in the Dark video tells the story of a girl who faced criticism about her appearance and singing after posting a video of herself singing while playing the guitar.

It also showed that some people do not dare to write good comments when they see many people trolling or being rude to anonymous profiles on the Internet. However, things can change for the better if good people dare to speak out and potentially save lives.

The video may be heartbreaking for those who remember the case of 30-year-old social media influencer A Rajeshwari, also known as Esha, who committed suicide after allegedly being bullied online on July 5.

Two people who posted comments on Esha’s TikTok post have been charged with disrupting communications.

3. Inbam/Joy | Celcom Digi

CelcomDigi’s video shows how the power of social media can be harnessed to bring Inbam (a Tamil word meaning joy) into people’s lives. The story begins with Grandma bringing a tray of tea for her granddaughters and their friends, but they close the door on her (who would say no to anything Patty does, right?!). What the gang was doing all this time, we will only find out much later.

4. Tiada Masala, Kari Masala! | Air Selangor

Eira Selangor’s Deepavali video can resonate with many people who consider themselves second best in the family compared to the golden child or favorite child. The video reminds parents and siblings that they too should appreciate their “forgotten” sibling. Sometimes love and appreciation can be expressed with a cup of masala chai.

5. Light of Hope | Ambank and Malaysian Association of the Blind (MAB)

Light of Hope is inspired by the collective experiences of the visually impaired community. History shows that in moments of grief, the presence of community is more important than ever and how they can help each other find the light together.

The story is about a little boy, Raju, whose life changes when an accident happens in his family. His friends and their families came together to help Raju’s family find joy and light in the world again.

6. Appunene: Based on a true story | Warnam Malaysia

This video is in the format of a true crime documentary warning everyone else of what will happen if they let an “appunene” get into their car! Weight gain from eating delicious food and having your kids say nasty things in a language you don’t understand, oh my! PS: If you can’t tell, this is a light-hearted and comedic take on anti-Indian stereotypes to raise awareness of our racism.

7. Deepavali Sudah Mari by Zubir Khan.

Zubir Khan’s video is not an advertisement for Deepavali, but it deserves a mention. He recently released a new single titled Deepavali Sudah Mari and the music video has been released on YouTube.

The catchy song is sure to inspire many to get on their feet and dance the night away. The video is full of joy from dancing and having fun with friends. Some listeners liked that there was finally a Deepavali anthem this year.

8. Deepavali Virunta by RAAGA

The RAAGA team has come up with a vibrant and joyful anthem that captures the festive spirit of Deepavali. The clip shows some funny antics as they prepare for the upcoming celebrations.

9. Guardians of Murukku | Singapore Government

Production studio Cosmic Ultima Pictures revealed that they filmed the Deepavali video “Guardians of Murukku” in Malaysia and tagged Ipoh as the location. The comedic three-minute film shows how Murugesan puts his family in a difficult situation when they run out of a classic holiday treat. However, there may be some help along the way.

Petronas and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) did not upload full versions of their videos, but judging by the trailer, they involved a live public performance. This list will be updated once both videos are released, so stay tuned!
