NFL Draft Analyst Offers Giants Bold Plan to Acquire Next Quarterback

With the Daniel Jones era in the rearview mirror, the New York Giants must now figure out how to deal with perhaps one of their biggest holes at the team’s most important position.

The growing consensus, at least among fans, is that the Giants should consider finding their next quarterback in next year’s draft. This is a controversial topic as the 2025 group is not as good as the 2024 group, but there is still talent to work with that is worthy of a first round pick.

The Giants currently sit third in the draft, which should be high enough for pundits (Sheader Sanders, Jalen Milroe and Cam Ward) to tout one of the top three quarterbacks. However, in his recent layoutESPN draft analyst Matt Miller has a bold idea for the Giants: Should they finish the year third overall in the draft?

Miller suggested that the Giants move up from third to first, which is currently occupied by the Jaguars, and then select Sanders from Colorado.

“Sanders is the top quarterback in the 2025 class, with top-notch accuracy (72.9 completion percentage), toughness in the pocket and play-making ability that the Giants offense has lacked. His ability to see the field and hit the ball with a quick release makes him ready to play right away,” Miller wrote.

“Sanders is similar to C.J. Stroud in his ability to get the ball to his receivers. Four touchdowns over the last two seasons, the Giants could pair the ultra-accurate Sanders with 2024 first-round receiver Malik Nabers to give themselves a chance in the NFC East.”

Miller isn’t offering compensation that the Giants would have to give up in this scenario, but trading for the first overall pick would require a significant offer. The Giants have never owned a No. 1 pick in their history. The closest they came was in 2004, when they orchestrated a trade to acquire quarterback Eli Manning from the Chargers after they made him the No. 1 pick on the board that year.

Sanders is an outstanding player, throwing for 3,222 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. He is the son of NFL Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders and will create instant buzz in the New York market.

Sanders’ arm talent and ability to finish plays when the pocket breaks down is exceptional. This would be a major step for the Giants, who are looking to turn the page on the Jones era.
