Education in crisis | Mismanagement blamed for failure to reopen schools

JOHANNESBURG – The basic education system only managed to build one school last financial year, a far cry from its target of nine.

This single project replaced a school built with unsafe materials.

That makes the department’s plan to open 30 new schools by March seem overly ambitious.

He blames budget cuts for the inability to meet targets.

But Equal Education says the real culprits are inefficiency and mismanagement.
