Texas A&M’s bid to bring back the Aggies falls short with 4 OT loss to Auburn Tigers

Texas A&M’s bid to bring back the Aggies falls short with 4 OT loss to Auburn Tigers

The Texas A&M Aggies desperately needed a win against the Auburn Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday night.

Unfortunately for the Aggies, who got off to a bad start, they couldn’t do it, losing to Auburn 43-41 in four overtimes.

And an understatement can be catastrophic.

Before they knew it, Texas A&M was down 21-0, giving up three straight scoring drives to the Tigers and digging itself a seemingly insurmountable hole.

However, the Aggies didn’t flinch, scoring midway through the second quarter to take the lead and make it a two-goal game at halftime.

The Aggies then started the second half with the ball and quickly took advantage, scoring two straight touchdowns of their own to tie the game in the third quarter.

Auburn then fought back with an answer of its own to take a 28-21 lead before the Aggies kicked a field goal.

However, the Aggie defense held strong after that, keeping the Tigers off the board and putting the game in the hands of the offense.

The game then came down to Auburn’s final drive and the Tigers took the lead with a field goal to send the game to overtime.

In the first overtime, the Aggies struck first, with QB Marcel Reed hitting Jade Walker for a 38-31 lead.

It didn’t take long for the Tigers to strike back, however, as Auburn running back Harkes Hunter took a punt just short of the goal line.

In the second overtime, the Aggies got some help from the officials on Auburn’s offensive pass interference, pushing the Tigers all the way from the two-yard line out of the red zone and forcing them to settle for the field. target.

Now that they were down 41-38, it was the Aggies’ turn to try to close out the game. However, they were unable to do so as the Tigers held them to a field goal and forced a third overtime.

In the next overtime, both teams failed to convert two-point attempts, forcing a fourth overtime frame.

In No. 4 overtime, the Tigers succeeded on their attempt, with QB Payton Thorne hitting KeAndre Lambert-Smith for the conversion, giving them a 43-41 lead.

The Aggies were unable to convert on their next attempt, resulting in the loss.

Offensively, the Aggies exploded in the second half, gaining a total of 469 yards of offense and 297 yards through the air from Reed.

For the game, Reed completed 22 of 35 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing 21 times for 66 yards.

Noah Thomas led Texas A&M in receiving, catching five passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.

On the other hand, the Aggies gave up 469 yards of offense and 301 yards through the air to Thorne.

With the loss, the Aggies now must beat the Texas Longhorns next week to get to Atlanta.

The Aggies and the Longhorns will begin at 6:30 pm CT on ABC, followed by College GameDay.
