AEW to Announce Competitors for Continental Classic on Selection Sunday

Competitors for the second-ever AEW Continental Classic will be announced on Selection Sunday.

Tony Schiavone made the announcement during Saturday’s AEW Full Gear event, but didn’t provide any details about how the names would actually be announced. Last year’s inaugural tournament featured a YouTube special featuring Eddie Kingston, Schiavone and Tony Khan.

The tournament begins this Wednesday on Dynamite from Chicago, Illinois, and will likely continue on Collision, which will also be taped that same evening.

No participants have been announced other than current continental champion Kazuchika Okada, who will put his title on the line in the tournament.

Assuming the format is the same as last year, it is a round-robin tournament with 12 wrestlers divided into two “leagues”. Each competitor will play five individual matches in their league, aiming to earn points (three for a win, one for a draw) to win their league, with each winner meeting in the final. As with last year, the winner of the tournament is expected to be crowned at the Worlds End in December.
