Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins scores his 600th NHL goal

Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins scores his 600th NHL goal

As the Pittsburgh Penguins try to salvage their season, they are falling deeper into the Metropolitan Division standings. This reality is difficult for the team to accept, especially as its best players Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin continue to play as elite forwards.

Despite the new rebuilding era the Penguins are entering, the team is having a historically good season under their captain. He added another highlight to an already magical 20th NHL season when he scored his 600th career goal, becoming the 21st player ever to reach that mark. Crosby reached the milestone in his 1,295th career game.

Sid’s 600th goal was not much different from the hundreds of others he scored during his career. Crosby, as expected, was on hand for his historic goal. After several attempts at redirection and rebounding, the Pens captain was repeatedly choked by the Utah Hockey Club’s goalie. But after a beautiful pass from defenseman Erik Karlsson, Crosby saved the only shot from the goal line.

This goal continues another great offensive season for Crosby. At 37, he turns back the clock to remain an elite scorer. In the Penguins’ first 23 games, he scored eight goals and had 13 assists for 21 points to lead the team.

Crosby currently ranks 10th on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. He now has 600 goals, as well as 1,017 assists and 1,617 points. He is just 35 points behind Colorado Avalanche legend Joe Sakic’s 1,641 points for ninth place on the all-time leaderboard.

The Penguins hope to find a way to achieve team success that matches Crosby’s individual skill. The team is struggling through the 2024-25 campaign. It’s unfamiliar territory for Crosby and company, who are trying to avoid finishing last in the Metropolitan Division. That commitment continues throughout the season, but this game will be another big moment for one of the NHL’s all-time greats.
