UP city will stop broadcasting meetings | News, Sports, Vacancies

ISHPEMING — Effective immediately, the City of Ishpeming will no longer broadcast its meetings on YouTube or Local Access Channel 189 on Spectrum Cable. Additionally, Zoom meeting ID codes will be reserved for employees, according to a Thursday post on the city’s Facebook page.

“Unfortunately, this decision comes after an outburst of unfortunate rhetoric and the use of video and audio recordings of meetings for inflammatory purposes in online groups. Incidents of property damage, threats and harassment of employees, elected officials and candidates prompted an investigation (Ishpeming Police Department). “As a result, some anonymous online activity has been linked to a suspect who currently resides outside the city.” the post says.

Minutes, agendas and meeting materials will continue to be published online.
