Fort Carson officials deliver Thanksgiving food to those in need.

FORT CARSON — Fort Carson officials delivered 2,200 Thanksgiving meals to people in need this week. The Fort Carson Culinary Academy has been preparing Thanksgiving meals for the Salvation Army for nearly 20 years.

Officials say they provided the following:

  • 220 turkeys
  • 300 lbs green beans
  • 250 pounds of potatoes
  • 300 pies

“We simply could not prepare more than 2,000 Thanksgiving meals each year without the collaboration of the Fort Carson Culinary Academy,” said Maj. Nancy Ball, Salvation Army El Paso County coordinator. “This partnership has a significant impact on our community. This allows us to serve not only those who cannot afford food, but also those who are cooped up and those who have nowhere else to go and want to be close to others. The holidays can be very lonely for some people, which is why we serve Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
