Electro Magnetic is developing the thriller “Unfathomable” with writer Lauren Black and producers Colleen Camp and Jonathan M. Black

EXCLUSIVE: Mark Kimsey and Roger Birnbaum’s Electro Magnetic Productions are developing the feature film. Unthinkable.

The film, written by Lauren Black, is a gripping thriller about 38-year-old college professor Sydney Drake, who is determined to remove any obstacles in her path to conception. She finds an unlikely mark on an unsuspecting student, whom she drags into her increasingly crazed journey as a decades-long secret intertwining their past threatens to blow up their lives.

Along with Birnbaum and Kimsey, EMP’s James Deutch will produce the film along with Colleen Camp, Jonathan M. Black, Lauren Black and their companies Colleen Camp Productions and Chair 10 Productions.

“I didn’t become a mother until I was almost 40. For most of my adult life, I was constantly single and never had the opportunity to have a child on my own. All this time I was tormented by the question: what if I wait too long? said screenwriter Lauren Black. “From this question, the incomprehensible was born – what happens when the one thing a woman wants most in life seems unattainable to her? The script paints a darkly comic and tense picture of what can happen when one woman’s single-minded pursuit of motherhood collides with the emotional reality of infertility, bringing to the surface long-neglected wounds that bleed through the characters’ lives with devastating consequences.”

Unthinkable solves acute problems of infertility and IVF. “In vitro fertilization (IVF) is used to conceive about 2.3% of children born in the United States each year, and with IVF making headlines, we felt this story would resonate with the millions of people whose lives have been touched by IVF.” Deutsch said.

The team is currently casting for the lead role of Sydney and is looking for a director with plans to shoot in 2025.

Jonathan M. Black’s producing credits include To have a good time, call…,Weirdo And Untied. Lauren Black’s television production credits include: Quit my day job, failure in street art And Restaurant startup.
