Three-point shooting has been the key to the Clemson Tigers’ success this season.

The Clemson Tigers bounced back from their first loss of the season with a convincing win over the Radford Highlanders.

The Tigers improved to (4-1) on Thursday with an impressive 28-point win over the Highlanders. It was a night and day game for Clemson as they understandably struggled in their first road game of the season against the Boise State Broncos.

However, back home, the Tigers were able to bounce back well against easier opponents. With the win, Clemson finished the first five games of the season with a record of (4–1), a strong start to the year.

As the fifth season began, several things began to become important factors for the Tigers. One of which was three-point shooting.

In the recent win over Radford, three-point shooting helped them to the win as it was one of the main reasons they lost. The Tigers had four players make multiple 3-pointers in the win, including Chase Hunter.

Against the Highlanders, Clemson not only did a great job shooting the ball from beyond the arc, but also did a great job defending it. After the win, head coach Brad Brownell said the three-point game is key for the Tigers.

“The second thing in our scouting report was that three-point defense was very important in this game, and I thought we protected the ball pretty well,” Brownell told Ashby Mixon of The Clemson Insider. I thought we battled through the screens, I thought we turned some things on the right way and I just thought we had a good plan.”

In the win, Clemson shot 11 of 23 from beyond the arc, a very impressive 47.3%. What may be even more impressive is that they held Radford to just 20% from 3-point range.

With the three-point shot being such a big part of the game right now, that difference makes it easy to see why this game was never close.

Looking ahead, if the Tigers can control the three-point line on both ends of the floor like this, they will have great success this season. However, the key for them will be to find consistency in their offense from behind the arc.

After the convincing win, next up for Clemson is a tournament in Florida against the San Francisco Dons of the West Coast Conference.
