Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY) crashed into New York governor Kathy Hochul (D) on Friday as he continues to urge Democrats to take positions he believes are more in line with voters.

“Katie Hochul – new Joe Biden» Torres wrote to X, adding:

She may be denying the depth of her vulnerability as a Democratic candidate. Democratic incumbent less popular in New York than Donald Trump is in serious danger of losing to a Republican in 2026, a result that hasn’t happened in 30 years.

Waiting until it was too late gave us a Republican president in 2024 and could have given us a Republican governor in 2026.

“Let us not repeat history and avoid sleepwalking towards impending disaster and defeat. “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it,” he concluded, referring to the vice president. Kamala Harris defeat by Donald Trump earlier this month. Hochul’s favorability rating fell to an anemic 34% in a September Siena College poll as her job approval hit a record low of 39%.

In recent weeks, Torres has turned to X and criticized the far left as the party responsible for alienating enough voters that Trump was able to not only retake the White House but also win the popular vote for the first time.

On Wednesday, he wrote: “Even though the best path to 270 is through Pennsylvania, the far left has decided to wage a smear campaign of sabotage Josh Shapirothe very popular governor of Pennsylvania.” He added:

The far left began a crusade against Governor Shapiro simply because he dared to speak out as a Jew against anti-Semitism after the events of October 7th. Not to mention, the presidential race could have been decided by a single vote in Pennsylvania. Her hatred of Donald Trump was surpassed only by her hysterical hatred of Israel and any Jew who dares identify with it.

In the end, Pennsylvania didn’t matter because we lost all the swing states. But the anti-Semitism directed at Josh Shapiro should neither be forgotten nor forgiven.

Politico also reported Friday that Torres appears to be preparing to run for governor himself. “Torres will tour New York City as he considers a run for governor,” the report notes, adding: “Torres has not set a date for the trip or determined where he will go. But visits to communities outside his Bronx House district could raise his profile in the upstate and suburban areas where he is little known.”
