Doonside: Police officer stabbed in chest during arrest following wild brawl in western Sydney

A police officer was stabbed in the chest while trying to detain a group of men involved in a wild brawl in Sydney’s western suburbs.

An officer is recovering in hospital after he was allegedly stabbed while arresting a man in Doonside on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to Hill End Road, Doonside, at around 12.30pm following reports of five men involved in a fight.

Upon arrival, officers from Blacktown Police Station saw a hatchback driving away from the scene.

The pursuit was initiated by officers from the North West Capital Region Operational Support Group (OSG) with assistance from officers from Mount Druitt Police Station, PolAir and the North West Capital Region Enforcement Squad (RES).

The chase was soon called off on Power Street after the car crashed into a power pole and the three men abandoned the car and ran away.

Police allege that it was while the men were being arrested that a 20-year-old man stabbed a male constable in the chest.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

Three men – aged 21, 20 and 18 – were taken to Blacktown police station.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident has begun.
